 Overall Job Purpose – what is this role here to do?

Purpose of the Senior Designer is to lead the design and innovation of all product design across eeBoo – to be considered and to be the best that it can be in terms of quality and commerciality, to achieve our business goals

Specifically delivering the design brief set by the Creative Director, setting out and assessing design concepts, conducting product research that informs the brief, helping conceptualise and establish line ideas and contributing to the range build – working to the assigned time frame for each project.


Day to Day the Senior Designer works closely with the Product Manager, Designers, production designers and in conjunction with CD and Head of Production to design and innovate quality product designs and specifications in line with the vision of the Creative Director. 

Leads the design of product lines across their brand/category. Building and delivering clear creative, innovative and consumer targeted design work, contributing to the overall brand vision that meets commercial needs but stays true to our Brands individual DNAs.

Under the leadership of CD the Senior Designer is responsible for the delivery of the assigned creative design briefs and works with the team to drive new, trend-right and innovative product consistent with the Creative/Commercial brief and needs of the consumer.

To help drive the development of seasonal inspiration (concepts) and the development of key product stories and initiatives supported by trend research and consumer/market/distribution understanding. Identify market trends appropriate to the brand, consumer behaviour and new product opportunities.

Collaborate design team to assess concepts, conduct product research as instructed that inform the brief. Actively feeding ideas into the Senior Creative Team.

Partner with the development team to ensure alignment throughout the development process, helping to brief them with the desired look clearly and precisely and to ensure alignment throughout the development process. Support development of prototypes in-house and through our suppliers. Give a clear input for material/finish requirements and size and colour palettes.

Keep up to date with competitors/trends in the product category and report back findings to the CD and Founder.

Contribute towards creating an inspiring and motivating team environment for the design studio through positive ways of working. Help to develop, mentor and coach junior team members to ensure they have the knowledge, skills and experience and exhibit the appropriate behaviours to excel in their roles and grow for future roles. Work collaboratively and share your progress, knowledge and experience with other teams and managers.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

∙      Responsible for interpreting the brief based on the direction and the vision of the Creative Director.

∙      The Senior Designer is a key creative driver for assigned catalog product. Delivering the design and creative that is informed by the creative vision for their brand or category.

∙     Contribute ideas into the early creative process that will inform the line list and seasonal assortment. Design, develop and deliver innovative, brand right products which meet category and consumer business unit needs. Research emerging trends and styles and key influencer markets to strengthen our offer and maintain competitive positioning.

∙     Consider new concepts in the brand/packaging/product and help drive the development of seasonal inspiration (concepts) and the development of key product stories and initiatives supported by trend research and consumer/market/distribution understanding. Identify market trends appropriate to the brand, consumer behaviour and new product opportunities.

∙     Responsible for presenting proposals with all relevant information at hand for decisions to be made on both, design, hardware, tooling, trims and styling. Work with the Head of Design to identify market trends appropriate to the brand, consumer behaviour and new product opportunities.

∙     Draw all style developments and other required elements to be clearly communicated at design reviews and prepare factory ready handover documents. Execute and update designs in technical drawing to ensure a smooth way of working. Design to cost – understand the impact of cost in every aspect of the product and work within the constraints of cost. Think about environmental implications and consider alternative materials or processes for the benefit of the environment at large.

∙     Ensures all work is of a consistent high standard, accurate on colour, on trend, and that the creative direction is clear across all lines to ensure our brands positioning and brand objectives are adhered to. Delivering a clear creative, innovative and consumer targeted product or range. Ensuring range is signed off by CDD/Founder.

 

 

 

Knowledge Areas

∙     Excels in Adobe design software, has a deep understanding of Design history and Design references.

∙     Product design and product performance, especially stationery, toys and gifts to translate trends to specific targeted consumer needs. Driven by creativity and highly commercial, consumer needs to be considered and translated into trend and market relevant products targeted to our final consumer.

∙     Creative mindset and strong skills to translate input/ideas/briefing into sketches. Understanding of development process and communication to different stakeholders (developers/designers/managers/marketing/sales).

∙     Strong knowledge on all designer software & programs and knowledge of the gift industry both in terms of trends and business.

∙     Excellent time management skills, clear understanding of development process and communication to different stakeholders (developers/designers/managers/marketing/ ales)

∙     Good level of presentation and communication skills, both written and verbal along with high level interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain strong working relationships. Team player and result driven.
