 Overall Job Purpose – what is this role here to do?

The purpose of the Production Designer is to support the design of products across the brands along with preparation and delivery of print ready files when required for both product & packaging. Ensuring all is considered and to be the best that it can be in terms of design quality and commerciality.

Specifically delivering the design files to printers, making sure they are to the correct template and specification, mocked up when necessary and uploaded to the supplier. working to assigned time frame for each project.

Day to Day you will work closely with the Senior Designers and Production team in conjunction with the Creative Director to design and innovate quality product designs and specification along with print ready files for production samples that are in-line with the schedule and vision of Senior design team. Ensuring you are working to an assigned time frame for each project that is in line with the business goals, providing skilled and technically precise files for approved design concepts.

Collaborate with the Senior Designers and Production team to assess concepts, conduct product research as instructed that inform the brief.

Partner with development team to ensure alignment throughout development process, helping to brief them with the desired look clearly and precisely and to ensure alignment throughout development process. Support development of mock-ups and prototypes in-house. Give a clear input to product specification curation, including materials/finishes product sizes and colour palettes for example.

Provide packaging and product files die lines and mock-ups when required.

Support compliance in terms of languages, warnings etc.

Contribute towards creating an inspiring and motivating team environment for the design studio through positive ways of working. Work collaboratively and share your progress, knowledge and experience with other teams and managers.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

∙     When needed, responsible for interpreting the brief based on the direction and vision from senior creative team, Delivering the design and creative that is informed by the creative vision for their brand or category.

∙     Support development of prototypes in-house and through our suppliers. Give clear details for material/finish requirements and size and colour palettes.

∙     Draw all style developments and other required elements to be clearly communicated at design reviews and prepare factory ready handover documents. Execute and update designs in technical drawing to ensure smooth way of working. Design to cost – understand the impact of cost in every aspect of the product and work within the constraints of cost. Think about environmental implications and consider alternative materials or processes for the benefit of the environment at large.

∙     Ensures all work is of a consistent high standard, accurate on colour, on trend, and that the creative direction is clear across all lines. Ensuring files are signed off by senior creative team

Knowledge Areas

∙∙    Strong knowledge on all Adobe designer software and programs and knowledge of the gift and/or toy industry both in terms of trends and business. 

∙     Excellent time management skills, clear understanding of the development process and communication to different stakeholders (developers/designers/managers/marketing/sales).

∙     Good level of presentation and communication skills, both written and verbal along with high level interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain strong working relationships. Team player and result driven.

∙     Strong personal management skills.

∙     Design and print experience with production expertise.

∙     Ability to prioritise and manage workload while meeting deadlines.
